Celosia is a striking cut flower grown for its bold texture, strong stems, and beautiful shape in the garden and vase. It is a wonderful choice for gardeners, floral designers, and small-scale flower farmers looking for a flower that adds colour, structure, and something a little different to mixed plantings and bouquets.

At Love Dahlias Namibia, we love celosia for the way it adds texture, colour, and long-lasting interest to the cutting garden. It works beautifully in both fresh and dried arrangements, making it a very useful flower for anyone wanting to grow for beauty, bunching, or arranging. If you have been searching for celosia seed in Namibia, cut flower seeds Namibia, or flowers that dry well, this is a lovely one to grow.

Celosia is an annual that grows best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil with good organic matter. It is especially rewarding in a cut flower patch, where regular harvesting and pinching can encourage more branching and better stem production through the season.

Packet Size: 50 seeds

Growing information
Days to germination: 8–14 days at 21–27°C

Sowing:
Transplanting recommended: Sow into seed trays or cell trays 6–8 weeks before planting out. Light is needed for germination, so cover the seed only very lightly to hold it in place. Bottom water or mist gently to avoid disturbing the seed and soil. Grow seedlings on at 17–20°C. Harden off before transplanting after danger of frost has passed.

Direct sowing: Only recommended in areas with a long growing season. Sow about 3 mm deep after the last frost. Low temperatures and less than 12 hours of light may cause premature flowering.

Light preference: Full sun
Soil requirements: Well-drained, moist, fertile soil high in organic matter
Plant height: Varies
Plant spacing: 15–30 cm
Hardiness: Annual
Stem length: 50cm depending on variety
Vase life: 7–14 days
Scientific name: Celosia spp.

Harvest information
For fresh flowers, harvest when the blooms are fully developed and the stems are firm at the base of the flower. For dried flowers, harvest at the same stage, remove the foliage, and hang in a dark, well-ventilated place to dry. Pinching is recommended while plants are growing to encourage branching, improve stem production, and create fuller, more productive plants.
